Plug & Abandonment-Subject Matter Expert

A vacancy has arisen for the position of Plug & Abandonment-Subject Matter Expert within our Aberdeen Projects & Engineering Team.

This role requires both strategic insight and hands-on technical capability, bridging commercial, operational and engineering domains to position Odfjell Technology as a leading P&A service provider in the UKCS and beyond.

The key duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the below:

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all P&A activities within the P&E business area.
  • Develop and support the implementation of OTL’s P&A market strategy while contributing as a key member of the P&A Team.
  • Provide technical and commercial input to bids, tenders and business development processes.
  • Support tender evaluations, solution concepts and cost models for integrated P&A scopes.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives related to rig reactivation, modular drilling units and Hydraulic workover units as relevant to P&A operations.
  • Maintain a strong network within regulators (NSTA, HSE) and industry alliances.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, work processes, and QA of internal P&A documentation.
  • Ensure lessons learned and continuous improvement from executed projects are captured and implemented.
  • Participate in or lead client engagement presentations and technical clarifications during tenders.
  • Represent Odfjell Technology at industry events, conferences, and workshops.
  • Support the wider OTL P&E delivery team across a diverse portfolio as required.
  • Offshore travel is a requirement in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Development:

  • Define and maintain P&A strategy within Projects & Engineering.
  • Identify opportunities for new market entry and collaboration. 

Business Support:

  • Provide technical support to Business Development and Tender Teams.
  • Develop technical write-ups, execution methodologies and risk registers.

Quality & Governance:

  • Maintain and improve internal P&A procedures and engineering standards.
  • Conduct peer reviews, assurance checks and readiness verifications.

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Collaborate across all OTL BA teams.
  • Provide mentorship/coaching to wider P&E to ensure consistent P&A competency development. 

Performance & Delivery:

  • Ensure high-quality, cost-efficient and safe delivery of P&A engineering support to projects.
  • Drive efficiency and innovation across all P&A activities.
  • Highly motivated and self driven to deliver with minimal supervision.

The successful candidate will preferably have some or all of the following:

  • Degree Level qualification in an Engineering Discipline or applicable subject (BSc/BA/BEng or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience delivering engineering projects within Drilling Facilities.
  • Proven experience in Drilling equipment & Drilling Systems reactivation to facilitate Plug & Abandonment (P&A) operations.
  • Good understanding of UKCS regulatory framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and strategic input to business development, tenders and client engagement.
  • Commercial and contractual understanding of P&A services and integrated project delivery models.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in drilling equipment specification/systems capacity based on Wells Up sizing approach.
  • Extensive knowledge/experience with Conventional Platform Drilling Equipment sets, Modular Drilling Unit concepts and Hydraulic Workover Unit concepts.
  • All necessary basic training for offshore visits.
