Odfjell Technology delivers record expandable liner operation in Kuwait

Odfjell Technology has marked a major milestone after completing the company’s first expandable operation of its kind in Kuwait.

The successful operation also reinforces our position as a trusted provider of well services and demonstrates the precision and reliability that define our tubular running services (TRS).

It was also our first long expandable liner run with Chevron/KGOC and involved deploying more than 2,000 feet of 5 ½” expandable pipe in a highly corrosive environment – an operation that has never been executed before in Kuwait by Odfjell Technology.

This record-setting job presented significant engineering and logistical challenges.

The expandable pipe’s sensitivity demanded specialized handling solutions to prevent damage or corrosion. Our TRS team responded with a tailored approach that included the use of chrome-handling equipment, a chrome master power tong and non-marking running gear. From lifting modifications to torque monitoring, every stage was engineered to ensure the pipe’s integrity throughout the operation.

Extensive planning and pre-job testing allowed the team to refine each step of the process. Close coordination between Odfjell Technology’s crew and the client also ensured a dynamic, adaptive response to changing on-site conditions, all while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Once operations began, the TRS crew executed the project with precision. Chrome-handling tools and monitoring systems were carefully calibrated with each connection verified to avoid cross-threading or marking that could compromise long-term performance.

These modified procedures allowed for smooth, controlled placement of the pipe, while real-time monitoring enabled efficient adjustments to keep the liner running within exact parameters.

As a result, the 5 ½” expandable pipe was deployed safely, with zero incidents and no downtime. This not only achieved the project’s technical goals but also set a new standard for well intervention and expandable liner installations in Kuwait where Odfjell Technology has an extensive track record in the region.
